A Evening with Amon Amarth 4/22/11

Absolutely amazing show! It was held at the fancy Regency Ballroom in SF April 22 as part of the U.S. Surtur Rising tour. The band had promised two sets for the show. The first set was their new Album Surtur Rising in its fullness. They opened up with the title track Destroyer of the Universe which was absolutely brutal! Johan Hegg of course was his uplifting happy humorous self, sticking out his tongue and everything. In between songs he would give humorous viking advice, which would lead into the next song in the line up. The 2nd set consisted of the ground shaking hits Amon Amarth has given us over the past 19 years. After waiting a painful 20 or so minutes, for Amon to return on stage, the lights went out and the sound of crashing waves and thunder echoed throughout the ballroom. I knew it was Twilight of the Thunder God instantly. The room became a empowering sing along of metal heads of all kinds and sizes. They band ended the night with Pursuit of Vikings and said their good byes which left the crowd dying for more. But I guess we will all have to wait for next years 20 year anniversary tour. I WILL BE WAITING!
